Netflix has released a sneak peek at Pluto, an adaptation of the lauded manga created by Naoki Urasawa and long-time co-creator Takashi Nagasaki.

Based on Osamu Tezuka's Astro Boy story "The Greatest Robot on Earth" from 1964, Pluto ran from September 2003 to April 2009. It's a neo-futurist tech noir based in a world where humans and robots live harmoniously. But a string of murders may have flung that peace out the window.

The voice cast for the anime includes Shinshu Fuji as robot detective Gesicht, Yoko Hikasa as Atom, the character loosely based on Astro Boy, and Minori Suzuki as Atom's younger sister Uran, all of whom you'll spy in the sneak peek.

Produced by animation studio Studio M2 with Genco, the adaptation has been co-authored with Takashi Nagasaki and supervised by Macoto Tezka, working with Tezuka Productions. At least this time it looks like Netflix is paying actual human artists rather than using artificial intelligence to make anime.

Pluto is streaming on Netflix in 2023.
