We already knew that Pope Francis was a great communicator, but this is something new.

The pontiff made a surprise recorded appearance at a TED talk conference calling on the world's powerful leaders to "act humbly" and urging solidarity to overcome a "culture of waste" that has left people behind.

“The more powerful you are, the more your actions will have an impact on people, the more responsible you are to act humbly," Francis, seated at a desk in Vatican City, said.

"You will end up hurting yourself and those around you, if you don't connect your power with humility and tenderness."

After telling his own migration story, the Pope called for equality, solidarity, and tenderness to help people "who are cast aside by our techno-economic systems."

“How wonderful would it be if the growth of scientific and technological innovation would come along with more equality and social inclusion,” he said.
