Babies of all kinds are typically cute, but you'd be forgiven for melting into an inconsolable puddle of "awww," at the site of these twin koala joeys.

The rare twins were brought into the world few days ago, having grown in their mother's pouch for four to five months previously, in the bush surrounding the Raymond Island Koala and Wildlife Shelter.

The first known instance of identical joeys was only recorded in 2000 at the University of Queensland, Australia, so these guys are super rare.

The twins' mum Nell was raised at the koala shelter and released into the wild three years ago. But she's made her home in the trees surrounding the property anyway.

The shelter are providing some additional sustenance for the koala mum to assist with nursing her new joeys.

Even in koala land, it takes a village.
