Resident Evil 7 is terrifying and difficult, which makes it a great game to try and play through as quickly as possible with as little fire power as possible.

Speedrunners have been posting their best times playing through the new Resident Evil game, reaching completion times nearing 90 minutes less than two weeks after the game's release. Twitch streamer and Youtuber Quizzle decided to ramp it up a notch and play the game using nothing but a knife.

"At the time, no one had done a knife-only playthrough on any difficulty level," he said. "No one actually knew if it was possible, so I gave it a shot on easy [difficulty] first then transitioned to madhouse. Most of my viewers wanted to see it so I gave it a shot!"

Madhouse is the highest difficulty in Resident Evil 7, unlocked after completing the game, and Quizzle managed to beat it without using a gun (except when forced to by the game) in a record-setting 3:26:06. With the record coming so early in the game's life, he admits that it isn't the most optimized route and his time could be bested.

"Anybody who tries hard can beat it," he said. "I highly suggest this run for everyone to try. It's super fun to figure out and there are a boatload of strategies in it."
