Put on your haptic gloves and strap on your VR goggles – it's time for a futuristic trip down memory lane.

Let us explain: Ready Player One is set in the year 2040s, but in a 2040s that's really obsessed with the 1980s. (In that sense, I guess the future's not that unlike the present.)

Tye Sheridan stars as Parzival, a young man who escapes his drab, depressing reality by logging into an '80s-influenced virtual reality paradise known as OASIS. When its mysterious creator dies, he leaves behind a puzzle that promises his entire fortune to the first person to find a solution.

What gives Parzival an edge in the game is that he knows '80s pop culture better than just about anyone. And what gives Ready Player One an edge in theaters is that it's being directed an '80s pop culture legend – Steven Spielberg.

Will Parzival's intense geekery pay off? Can he get the ultimate prize? Will Spielberg include Spielberg-inspired Easter eggs in his Spielberg-inspired movie? Is it weird that Spielberg is directing a movie based in culture that he himself helped create, or is it kind of perfect? Is it maybe both?

Keep playing to find out. Ready Player One powers into theaters March 30, 2018.
