Being the serious one in a cast full of clowns ain't always fun. But Regé-Jean Page leaned into this stoic element of his character for the upcoming Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.

Appearing on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Page described his Paladin as "lawful good bordering on lawful boring, but he does his best."

"I am the paladin, painfully righteous, incredibly stoic, thoroughly charming, ridiculously heroic man in shining armour and a cape, which is really fun because you get to be the straight man to who everyone bounces off," he told Colbert. "They’ve done this inversion where I would be the hero in any other movie."

Page's paladin teams up with a miscellaneous group of D&D characters: a bard (Chris Pine), a barbarian (Michelle Rodriguez), a sorcerer (Justice Smith), and a druid (Sophia Lillis).

"Jonathan Goldstein, one of our directors, talks about it’s almost like this character wandered in from another lot, shooting a really serious fantasy movie, and then just blunders upon these idiots making the Dungeons and Dragons movie, and then spends most of the movie very confused by that. But there’s something really cool about the guy who should be the hero, he doesn’t get to enjoy any of the fun because he’s taking it all so seriously."

Stick around for the clip which shows Page's character over-describing a complicated but solvable puzzle.

Dungeons and Dragons: Honor Among Thieves hits theaters March 31.
