It's not Inception, it's not Assassin's Creed, but it seems to borrow from both?

Memory and mystery lie at the heart of the trailer for Reminiscence, the upcoming thriller and directorial debut from writer, director, and Westworld co-creator Lisa Joy.

Set in a futuristic Miami where nostalgia seems to be a commodity, the film sees Hugh Jackman starring as Nick Bannister, a "private investigator of the mind" who helps clients dig into their hidden memories, with the help of Thandiwe Newton, who also stars. One of these clients is Mae, played by Rebecca Ferguson, who Bannister appears to take on "one more job" for in classic noir style, and who seems to have a big dark mystery associated with her.

If the Inception-like mindplay and high-contrast, dilapidated city shots weren't enough, Bannister seems to be accessing memories through some kind of Animus-like device that will have Assassin's Creed fans pointing furiously at their screens too. Bit of column A and B, it seems.

Either way, Jackman spends the trailer screaming "WHERE IS SHE?" so we're in for a ride.

Reminiscence will hit theatres August 20 and will be available on HBO Max for 31 days after that.
