Researchers at Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard University developed a hybrid micro-robot capable of guiding itself into complex environments like water and air.

Although the "Robobee" is still at an early testing stage, the technology that powers it is thought to have the potential of various applications in the future, including undertaking search-and-rescue missions and environmental monitoring. The coolest feature of this tiny robot is its ability to propel to the water surface and then take off from there to land on its feet.
