Why historian Rutger Bregman thinks that now, of all times, is the moment to be hopeful about the future

Rutger Bregman is a Dutch historian, perhaps best known for absolutely thrashing tax-avoiding billionaires at the 2019 World Economic Forum in Davos. It's not hard to trace how a global system perpetuating self-interest and inequality creates all kinds of problems – many of which are on full display in 2020.

In Bregman's book, Humankind: A Hopeful History, he leaves plenty of room for hope about our collective future, based on historical evidence about how people tend to behave toward one another in times of extreme crisis.
