Americans: We may still get a female president but Samantha Bee says it's not who you think.

"I think maybe our first female president might be Ivanka Trump," Bee told Ana Gasteyer at the New York Comedy Festival.

“I’m not joking,” added Bee after the crowd audibly cringed. “I’m so sorry that I said that.”

Gasteyer herself has a visceral response, but said we "may go into an era of dumbshits who are popular," and that the presidency is about charisma and popularity.

"Something about Americans needs to have people that they recognize from television," Gasteyer reasoned. She doesn't agree with President Ivanka, but it's the same thought process that led Bee to her answer.

Bee has talked about Ivanka Trump on numerous occasions on her late-night show Full Frontal With Samantha Bee, noting that she and husband Jared Kushner are not the progressive voices of reason one would want in the White House.

Full Frontal airs Wednesdays at 10:30 p.m. on TBS.
