Every time we think Samantha Bee took her gloves off, it turns out she had another pair on underneath.
In Wednesday night's episode, Bee's segment on the Vice Presidential debate compared Governor Mike Pence's political vision to A Handmaid's Tale and shows him in bed next to a decapitated horsehead -- which she maintains is still better than getting into bed with the Trump ticket.
Pence took the stage on Tuesday against "Hillary Clinton's Care Bear" Senator Tim Kaine.
"Both candidates passed the test of looking Vice Presidential...right until they opened their mouths," Bee said.
She goes on to say that Kaine could have won the debate even by keeping silent, but "let the bright lights of the big boy stage get the best of him." Instead of exposing what he finds troubling Pence, she said, Kaine focused too much on what the public already knows about Trump.
Bee doesn't care for Pence's temperament, comparing it to having functioning air bags on a burning car ("Little bit reassuring, but kind of beside the point"); she's more concerned with his history of homophobic and problematic women's health legislation -- and with pundit reactions that Pence is planning his own run for the presidency.
"No!" cried Bee. "We are not starting the 2020 election now!"
First we have to survive this one.
