It's 2019, so you might think all television shows operate with the help of high-tech devices like teleprompters. But not Saturday Night Live.

After more than 40 seasons, the show still stays true to its old school method of line-reading: cue cards. Yes, they use hand-written lines that take quite a bit of time and effort to prepare.

In a behind-the-scenes video that's nearly 7 minutes long, the show's cue card supervisor, Wally Feresten, gives fans a look at what it really takes to make each SNL episode a reality.

From marker colors to block printing, spacing, tape, and card size, there's a lot to learn about cue cards. And their role in the show's history is surprisingly fascinating.
