On the surface, Jake Johnson's Self Reliance seems pretty similar to Stephen King's novel The Running Man (and Netflix’s King-inspired competition series Run for the Money). Both are about men entering a reality game show in which "hunters" try to kill them for 30 days and there's a large cash prize at the end. The difference? Johnson's Hulu film is a comedy, and the twist is the hunters can't get you when you're with someone else.

Enter Anna Kendrick as Johnson's fellow player/new friend for what is, per our Mashable review from Kristy Puchko, "an enthralling and wildly fun directorial debut."

We're looking forward to seeing Andy Samberg playing himself as a semi-villain, too.

How to watch: Self Reliance is streaming on Hulu from Jan. 12.
