'He's a terrible person': Seth Meyers condemns Trump's plan to revoke food stamps amidst the coronavirus

"We're in this weird moment right now where it's difficult for the media and public health experts to convey the severity of what's happening without sounding hysterical," Late Night host Seth Meyers said on Thursday. "It's like being the one person in a horror movie who knows they're in a horror movie."

Production on Late Night has shut down indefinitely due to the coronavirus, returning March 30 at the earliest. Nevertheless, the crew filmed a last, casual Closer Look segment.

"Really the reason we're gonna do this right now is that once it's on the [cue] cards Wally [Feresten, the cue card holder] makes us do it," joked Meyers.

Much of Meyer's attention was devoted to the coronavirus, with Tom Hanks testing positive for COVID-19 and the NBA suspending all games. However, Meyers also noted that despite the current health crisis tanking the economy, Trump is continuing to proceed with his "truly sadistic plan" to take 700,000 low-income people off food stamps.

"All jokes aside, he's a terrible person," said Meyers. "Our government is massively failing us at a time when the nation is looking for guidance so now it's up to the media, public health officials, workplaces, and individuals to take this seriously, practice caution, and lead where the president is failing."
