It seems Secretary of State Mike Pompeo really didn't like the line of questioning in a recent interview with NPR’s Mary Louise Kelly. So, like any respectable public figure, he dodged the question, waited until the mics were off, and threw a little tantrum. This included Pompeo apparently expressing a belief that Americans "don't care about Ukraine" — a belief Seth Meyers easily poked holes in on Tuesday's episode of Late Night.
"You are on NPR! If there's any place where people pay attention to world events, that's it," quipped Meyers. "People who can put up with the intricacies of jazz fusion can certainly handle basic geography."
Meyers also pointed out the hilarious futility of Pompeo's attempt to stump Kelly by challenging her to... point out Ukraine on an unmarked map. She had no problem answering this basic geography question, considering that she graduated from Cambridge with a master's degree in European studies. "Not only is she qualified for her job, she's more qualified than you are for your job," said Meyers.
Side note: We're still waiting for Pompeo to answer Kelly's question and reveal when he supposedly defended Marie Yovanovitch. Whenever you're ready, Mike.
