Seth Meyers skewers Trump's post-acquittal ranting, and that accidentally awesome Romney ad

As only the third U.S. president to be impeached in history, and only the second in the modern era, Donald Trump doesn't have a lot to go on when it comes to models for how to behave post-acquittal. But hey, was there ever any doubt he would be a dick about it?

On Thursday, at the National Prayer Breakfast — usually a sober and non-partisan affair — and a bizarre appearance before press gathered in the East Room of the White House, Trump gloated. He also called the impeachment "bullshit," held up papers with headlines about his acquittal, invoked "Honest Abe" Lincoln, ranted repeatedly about "dirty cops", and took aim at his "enemies" (who now include Mitt Romney, the only Republican senator who voted to convict him).

"Because," said Seth Meyers in Thursday night's A Closer Look segment, "what is prayer if not a time to air petty grievances?"

Romney, of course, got his own attack ad from the Trump camp hours after voting to convict, but as Meyers points out, it backfired spectacularly — by making the bland Utah senator look like a slick superspy.

"I didn't think it was possible to take a boring private equity robot like Mitt Romney and make him look like James Bond, but Trump did it!"
