Seth Meyers nails why the White House's shocking Ukraine admission sums up Trump
Watch Next

"We say this a lot but it was true again today: Donald Trump talked to reporters, and once again he lost his mind."

Seth Meyers and the Late Night writing staff are bravely soldiering on in the search for new ways to take "A Closer Look" at whatever the hell is going on in Washington each week — because everything is happening more than ever. Or as Meyers puts it: "The Trump administration feels like the SportsCenter of scandals." Each update feels like a highlights package.

The latest round in a packed impeachment season has featured the acting White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney admitting — almost bragging — that the quid pro quo in Trump's Ukraine call at the centre of the inquiry was not only a thing, but a thing they do "all the time", and then walking it back by saying the president still "considers himself in the hospitality business."

"This is such a key confession from Mulvaney because it explains so much," Meyers points out. "Trump still sees himself as the corrupt real estate mogul and reality star who always got away with whatever he wanted, rather than a government official who's bound to the rule of law."
