Sean Bean as Thomas Cromwell? We're in!

Disney+ has released the trailer for its new historical mystery series Shardlake, based on the first of C. J. Sansom's novel series that spans the reign of Henry VIII and Elizabeth I.

Set in Tudor England during the dissolution of the monasteries, the four-part series follows lawyer Matthew Shardlake (Arthur Hughes), who works for Cromwell (Bean), right hand to the king. Accompanied by his assistant Jack Barak (Anthony Boyle), Shardlake is ordered to investigate a murder of one of the Crown's commissioners in the church of Saint Donatus in the town of Scarnsea. But there are more political moves afoot than it seems. All the while, Shardlake is living with scoliosis and all the social abuse that comes with it during the 16th century.

Written by Stephen Butchard and directed by The Other Boleyn Girl's Justin Chadwick, Shardlake looks like a compact but opulent murder mystery for Tudor enthusiasts.

Shardlake is streaming on Disney+ "soon."
