Cults, creepy children, possession, and other people convinced it's all in your head — that's not exactly an original mix when it comes to horror, but it is an undeniably effective one.

Ivan Kavanagh's new movie Son follows mother Laura (Andi Matichak) struggling to protect her child from the horrors of her past, after a group of strangers show up one night in his room.

Channelling the creeping dread of Hereditary with themes reminiscent of The Omen, the trailer suggests gore, psychological horror, and jump scares aplenty in this one.

Son lands on Shudder July 8.
