The official trailer for sci-fi thriller Significant Other has arrived, and it makes a compelling case for never going on a hiking date.

The film follows Ruth (Maika Monroe, It Follows) and Harry (Jake Lacy, The White Lotus), a young couple on a trek through the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest. Unfortunately, it seems as though they aren't quite on the same page in their relationship, with Harry apparently head over heels in love with a considerably colder Ruth.

To be fair, some of her strange behavior may be attributable to the mysterious otherworldly goo she encounters in the forest — and the growing feeling that they aren't alone.

Significant Other arrives Oct. 7 on Paramount+.
