In a period of a few weeks, two eclipses will occur. The first occurred today: a partial solar eclipse, taking place as the moon passed between the sun and the earth.

The eclipse was visible across Greenland, Europe, western Asia, northeastern Africa and the Middle East. America didn't witness the eclipse; in fact, the next time the country will view a solar eclipse is October 14, 2023.

Today, large parts of Europe, including Russia, Finland, and northern parts of Sweden, saw more than 60 percent of the sun's diameter covered by the moon. Parts of India, including Jammu and Kashmir, saw the same.

This is the UK's only solar eclipse of the year. It began around 10am BST in London, and was visible in the UK until around midday.

People in Western Siberia had the best view of the eclipse, with the moon obscuring about 85 percent of the sun.

Wherever you may be, you can re-watch the event via Sky News' livestream above.
