Space Jam: A New Legacy is the unlikeliest sequel you can't wait to see.

A follow-up to the Michael Jordan-meets-Looney Tunes sports comedy from 1996, the upcoming sequel sends James, who plays himself, spinning off to a colorful multiverse in a search for his son, who is trapped there. But to get out, he'll need to beat the boss of the multiverse, played by Don Cheadle, in a contest. Basketball is the game, and LeBron's team are... you guessed it! Looney Tunes characters.

This first trailer for the sequel to Space Jam is pretty much what you'd expect from a sequel to Space Jam. But the movie also seems to take a note from the likes of Ready Player One, plunging LeBron into an IP-laden multiverse featuring familiar faces from The Flintstones, Yogi Bear, The Iron Giant, and a ton of others. Get that pause button ready at around the 1:40 mark if you want to hunt for Easter eggs.

Space Jam: A New Legacy hits theaters and HBO Max on July 16.
