Spelunky is the real deal.
Don't be fooled by the cartoon aesthetic and seemingly simple 2D platforming. Beneath all of that lies an infernally challenging, ever-changing game that screws you over more than it rewards you... but still has you begging for more every damn time.
You should definitely try the HD remake if you've never known the joys of Spelunky... but at this point, you could also just wait for the sequel.
Freshly confirmed during Sony's PlayStation press conference at Paris Games Week, the new trailer above reveals little. It seems the star of the original game has grown up, married a woman, adopted one of those goofy dogs, and made a baby. But if you're looking for a hint of gameplay... well... keep waiting.
We don't know when it's coming. We don't know what it looks like. We don't even know which machines will run it (though PlayStation 4 is obviously a sure bet). But Spelunky 2 is real, and it's coming eventually. That's enough for now.
