In a film still from 'Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse', Spider-Gwen, voiced by Hailee Stanfield, sits with Miles Morales, voiced by Shameik Moore, on the bed in his childhood room. The two are chatting as friends, with Gwen staring off and looking wistful while Miles looks happy yet embarrassed by the sorry state of his room.

Here's a surprise for your Saturday night. Sony is ready to unleash our first-ever look at Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, the sequel to 2018's animated hit, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. But wait! There's more.

Across the Spider-Verse is going to be a two-part story, and we already know when the first part is arriving: Oct. 7, 2022. Less. Than. A. Year!

This first look is a little bit "here's a whole entire scene" and a little bit trailer/sizzle reel. We start with Miles Morales (Shameik Moore) lying in his childhood bedroom listening to the same Post Malone track he was singing along to when we met him in the first movie. All of a sudden, Spider-Gwen (Hailee Stanfield) shows up with vague talk of there being a kind of trouble where Miles and his powers can be helpful. Just one problem: He's grounded.

"Is Spider-Man grounded?" Gwen asks. Great question.

From there we soar off into trailer territory, with a flash of images introducing Miles to the world of 2099, the home of Spider-Man 2099, voiced in this movie by Oscar Isaac. True to the series (it's a series now!) aesthetic, the world of 2099 is rendered with a decidedly different look and feel than fans of the first movie will remember. It's all static 2D spaces, with a painterly feel reminiscent of watercolor art.

It's likely not the only Spider-world we'll get to see, given that whole "ACROSS" thing in the sequel's title. We surely haven't heard the last from Sony on this one, so stay tuned.
