Finding success in syndication, Star Trek -- the television series -- quickly became a cult classic in the early 1970s.

Paramount, looking to ride the wave of passionate Trekkies across the country, tried to bring the series back to television in the mid '70s.

However, the series, known as Phase 2, never made it to air.

Here's a brief history of this infamous Hollywood development hell tale.
