'Do your job': Stephen Colbert's radical fix for Trump's sinking coronavirus approval ratings

"Disapproval of Trump is spreading faster than, than... something. Whatever spreads really quickly if you're dumb enough to ignore it," quipped Late Show host Stephen Colbert on Wednesday.

The majority of Americans are deeply dissatisfied with President Donald Trump's handling of the coronavirus pandemic, considering it to have been far too slow. The U.S. currently has the largest number of infections in the world, with over 776,000 confirmed cases and 37,000 deaths.

Trump has been attempting to distract the public with various scapegoats, implementing a new ban on immigration despite the fact nobody can travel right now anyway. However, as Colbert points out, the president's usual messaging tactics aren't quite working. The only way he can fix this is if he actually fixes it.

"You can't have Bill Barr redact the virus, or call Ukraine to get dirt on Hunter Virus, or get Mitch McConnell to have 51 Republicans vote that there is no virus," said Colbert. "You can't even pay the virus $130,000 to stay quiet, which is too bad because this virus is definitely spanking your ass."
