Stephen Colbert goes to absolute town on Iowa caucus voting app disaster

Iowa, what the hell happened? You might have have heard, but vote-counting was severely delayed in the state's 2020 Democratic race on Tuesday, thanks to "inconsistencies" with the app used for reporting caucus results. It was a big mess.

After getting stuck into the live CNN hang-up (yep, that was a thing), The Late Show's Stephen Colbert went to absolute town on the technical difficulties that plagued the "great state of Confusion, formerly known as Iowa" on Tuesday night.

"How did Iowa get so thoroughly caucus-blocked?" asked Colbert. "This year, caucus volunteers were supposed to report results using a new smartphone app. The trouble is, most elderly volunteers had a hard time downloading it onto their garage door openers.

"Developers admit results were significantly delayed because the new app had a coding issue," he continued. "That explains why CNN initially projected the winner was Senator Error 404: File Not Found."

Colbert found particular delight in the developer's name, Shadow Inc. "The app was supposed to count the votes and, I think, kill James Bond?"

But it's OK folks, The Late Show team has created a solution.
