Stephen Colbert lambasts all the latest White House gaffes in a burn-filled monologue

Stephen Colbert has been off for the past week, which meant he had a fair bit to catch up on during his Monday night return. And, unsurprisingly, much of it was Trump-related.

After mocking another of the president's bizarre press conferences, The Late Show host turned his attention to a different press conference — this time from White House chief of staff Mick Mulvaney, who last week casually confirmed the quid pro quo at the centre of Trump's impeachment.

"OK, my point is, we're not quid amateur quos," joked Colbert, imitating Mulvaney. "We're quid pro quos."

Colbert went on to make fun of the statement Mulvaney immediately put out afterwards, in which he totally reversed his position.

"Admitting the thing that Trump is being impeached for turned out to be slightly problematic, so later that day Mulvaney put out a statement saying, 'Let me be clear. There was absolutely no quid pro quo.', said Colbert. "But we saw you on camera repeatedly saying that there was!

"It's like if Mick Jagger left stage and immediately released a statement saying: 'Let me be clear. Jumping Jack Flash was not a gas gas gas.'"
