Stephen Colbert slams Trump's pandemic priorities, including that bizarre CDC feud

You could fill a book with the number of ways the Trump administration has lethally bungled the coronavirus crisis, and no doubt plenty of people already are. For those of us with shorter attention spans, late night hosts like The Late Show's Stephen Colbert have been documenting the president's nonsensical personal preference in preventative measures, as well as the White House's ongoing feuds with medical experts who refuse to side with Trump over actual science. Trump has repeatedly refused to wear a face mask, even after multiple staffers tested positive, but claimed this week that his personal physician gave him the OK to take hydroxychloroquine to prevent him from contracting COVID-19 despite there being no solid evidence it actually does that.

"So he's unwilling to wear a mask, but he will take a drug whose side effects include serious heart conditions, including death," noted Colbert on Wednesday night. "Now, I'm no cardiologist, but death seems like a pretty serious heart condition. 'How's the heart doing?' 'Other than the death, pretty good!'"

Colbert also took aim at the Trump White House for burying the CDC safety guidelines for states to reopen businesses, reportedly forcing the agency to release "watered-down" standards, and retaliating against individual officials who contradict the inaccurately sunny Trump narrative.

"Y'know, a pandemic's not the best time to be feuding with that particular agency," said Colbert of the Centers for Disease Control. "You never saw FDR pick a fight with the Center For Defeating Nazis."
