Stephen Colbert calls out Trump's thin response to New Zealand terror attack

The world is still coming to terms with the tragedy of the Christchurch terror attack, including New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern.

However, The Late Show host Stephen Colbert noted that Ardern "made it clear that her country was united," after the attack by a white supremacist on two mosques in which 50 Muslim worshippers were killed.

After the attack, Ardern said she had spoken with President Trump directly, and that he had passed on his condolences to New Zealand. When asked by Trump what offer of support the U.S. could provide, the prime minister simply requested "sympathy and love for all Muslim communities."

"That's not really Trump's brand," said Colbert on Monday night. "Trump has trouble showing love for things that are not him, and he has a particularly bad record with Muslims in this regard, so he's in a bind.

"On the one hand, after a terror attack, to condemn the extremist ideology of the terrorist should be a slam dunk. On the other hand, he can't jump."

At the end of a pretty furious monologue which listed the president's racist track record, Colbert just came out and said it. "Trump is anti-Muslim," he said. "That was actually kinda easy."
