Sometimes jokes are half-baked, but with Stephen Colbert, they come perfectly well-done.

For his ongoing Roald Dahl inspired segment, "Don and the Giant Impeach," the Late Show host dug into Trump's joint press conference with the president of Finland on Wednesday, in which he was naturally questioned on the impeachment inquiry following the Ukraine scandal.

"The impeachment vultures are circling, and he's worried because he knows there's a lot of meat left on that bone and it's getting gamey," said Colbert in his monologue.

But it was Trump's remarks about Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi that landed Colbert's best joke of the night. House Democrats plan to subpoena the White House for documents on Friday as part of the impeachment inquiry into Trump. Rudy Giuliani, Trump’s personal attorney, has already been subpoenaed.

"Nancy Pelosi hands out subpoenas like — you know, she has to approve it — hands out subpoenas like they're cookies," Trump said.

"Yes, they are like cookies," quipped Colbert. "'Cause that's the way your presidency crumbles."
