Stranger bluffs through job reference call, hailed 'best bloke in the world'

Gone for a new job and been short on references before? You're not alone. Next time, try calling some random number and asking the stranger who picks up to vouch for you.

That's what Australian radio host Hamish Blake did, by dialling a number belonging to a guy called James Lord, to see if he'd be his personal reference for an accounting job.

Being the good guy he is, Lord happily obliged, despite never meeting "Tim Barnard," as media personality Blake called himself. Not only that, he raved about the guy, who he met through "the footy club," and could speak "at least two" languages, although he wasn't able to specify which ones. It is stuff of pure legend.

Good on ya, James Lord. You truly are lord of the mates.
