‘Stranger Things’ is full to bursting with references from '80s films

So it looks like Eleven is basically just E.T.

Netflix's latest original show, the 1980s themed horror-mystery-synth album Stranger Things, has exploded in popularity since its release. And it's absolutely full of '80s throwbacks, and not just because it stars Winona Ryder.

Vimeo user Ulysse Thevenon put together a long list of all the '80s (and also some '70s) films to which Stranger Things pays homage. Topping the list is a good mix of wholesome family adventures like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and The Goonies, as well as skin-crawling horror flicks like Alien, Nightmare on Elm Street and Firestarter.

Which makes a lot of sense, as Stranger Things could be described as the closest thing we've got to Steven Spielberg directing a Stephen King story.
