It wouldn't be election season without a visit from one of the hardest working campaign trail reporters around: Triumph the Insult Comic Dog.

With Conan O'Brien on a break this week, Triumph picked up his mic and hit the road to Texas for The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where Triumph finally got to meet his great white whale, incumbent Sen. Ted Cruz, face-to-face.

And it was worth the wait as Triumph takes Cruz's awkward attempt at humor and turns it around into the mother of all zingers.

While fans of Cruz opponent Rep. Beto O'Rourke weren't immune to Triumph's fire, it's hard not to ignore that even Triumph seems to have fallen for O'Rourke. He told the candidate, "I love the way you are anybody but Ted Cruz."

Truly, 2018 has given us a midterm election unlike any other.
