With a movie called The Disaster Artist, you need a leading man unafraid to embrace his inner eccentric. Enter James Franco.

Franco, known to be a little odd himself, stars in A24 Films' upcoming flick about Hollywood director Tommy Wiseau -- best known for 2003's 'The Room.'

The film's trailer features Franco with his brother Dave, Seth Rogen, Alison Brie, and Judd Apatow. In it, we get a glimpse of the type of auteur Wiseau aspired to be.

Over the course of the movie -- while making the movie within the movie -- Wiseau unravels. But Franco seems perfectly at home in the role.

The Disaster Artist is based on Greg Sestero's memoir of the same title, in which the actor recalls making The Room with Wiseau. Dave Franco plays Sestero in the film.

The Disaster Artist releases in theaters Dec. 1.
