If you're not familiar with the names Benj Pasek and Justin Paul yet, you will be soon.

The songwriting duo made a big splash last winter when they took home the Best Original Song Oscar for La La Land and the Best Original Score Tony for Dear Evan Hansen. And they'll be back in headlines this winter with their latest project, The Greatest Showman.

The film stars Hugh Jackman as P.T. Barnum, who (at least according to him) basically invented showbiz when he founded what would eventually become the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus.

It's a full-on musical, and an original one at that – in other words, exactly the kind of movie Hollywood supposedly doesn't make these days.

But Pasek and Paul's La La Land was the glorious exception to the rule last year. And with some luck, The Greatest Showman could just follow in its footsteps, all the way to another Oscar.

... Okay, so maybe we're getting ahead of ourselves there. But even that's in keeping with the spirit of Barnum, who seems exactly like the kind of guy to dream big.

So, how do these guys make a soundtrack worthy of Barnum's creative spark and enormous ambition? Take a peek behind the curtains in this Mashable exclusive featurette above.
