The first trailer of 2020's The Grudge has arrived just in time for Halloween, though nobody in it is in the mood for trick or treating.

Not to be confused with the 2004 film of the same name, this version of The Grudge is a reboot of the Japanese-American horror series, which I did not watch because I fear death.

The trailer for the new Grudge features John Cho as Peter Spencer, a real estate agent trying to sell a lovely house that should be burned to the ground. He seems like a good guy who's just trying to do his job, and I sincerely hope he does not die.

Andrea Riseborough also appears as Muldoon, a detective who absolutely did not sign up for this when she joined the force. Upon investigating the house and inadvertently gaining a pale, dark-haired follower, she must keep both herself and her son safe from the eternally angry ghost. Good luck with that.

The Grudge hits theaters on January 3.
