'The Lion King' deepfake uses original movie to 'fix' the CGI

Deepfakes have the scary ability to put words in other people's mouths and make world leaders appear to have completely different views. But that doesn't mean you can't have a little fun too!

Artist Nikolay Mochkin and Jonty Pressinger collaborated to create a deepfake of the new The Lion King remake, using animation from the original 1994 film. Several reviews had criticized the lack of emotion in the creature's features, and believed that the dutiful recreation of animals in CGI was not enough to replace the warmth of the original.

Even though the clip above is only 18 seconds long, it does a fantastic job of pairing the physicality of the more hyperrealistic animal bodies with the bold expressions of the animated movie. Now we can really feel the love tonight!
