Are two popes better than one? And how do we know which pope is the best pope? Netflix's The Two Popes trailer asks all these big questions in the context of an unprecedented papal resignation (based on true events and Pope Benedict XVI).

Anthony Hopkins plays Pope Benedict opposite the High Sparrow himself, Jonathan Pryce, as a restless cardinal in a time of scandal and scrutiny for the church. Both men express frustration with the old ways and their posts, while Benedict hones Bergoglio as his replacement. City of God director Fernando Meirelles directs, with a screenplay from Anthony McCarten.

The Two Popes hits theaters Nov. 27 and premieres on Netflix Dec. 20.
