Viola Davis's reign as The Woman King has officially begun.

Director Gina Prince-Bythewood's upcoming historical epic tells the story of the Agojie, an all-female regiment in the Kingdom of Dahomey, located in present-day Benin. Led by General Nanisca (Davis), the Dahomey Amazons were a formidable force in Dahomey's fight against European colonizers — and the trailer makes sure you know that. Between training montages, battle sequences, and Davis' rousing speeches to her soldiers, this trailer is epic in the fullest sense of the word.

The Woman King also stars John Boyega, Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim, and Hero Fiennes Tiffin. The film hits theaters Sept. 16, 2022.
