Tig Notaro explains how she filmed 'Army of the Dead' without meeting Dave Bautista

When Tig Notaro was brought into Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead to replace Chris D'Elia (who faced sexual misconduct allegations from multiple women in 2020), the movie had already been shot. The whole thing was wrapped.

So instead of standing opposite co-stars like Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista, Notaro found herself in front of a green with just a tiny crew and Zack Snyder behind the camera.

"I've never met Dave Bautista in my life. I've never met the man," Notaro explained to Stephen Colbert on The Late Show, shortly after a clip from the movie showing them in a scene together. "My assistant was on set, and he's 6'2", and they would put him in a green suit, and every now and then I would look up and talk at him."

Notaro said that it was such a technical shoot that she'd be told to walk along a certain line, and look in a certain direction, with Snyder and co. checking on whether the shot needed tweaking after they'd green-screened her performance in.

"They'd come back and say, 'You know what, let's move it a centimetre to the left and do it exactly the same.'"

Notaro's feelings about the green screen shoot? "I had so much fun with Zack, I truly did, I had so much fun with him and and the crew — they were so incredible. But I never want to do it again."
