Sure, everyone knows their way around Middle-earth. But how well do you know its creator?
A new biopic promises to dig into the life and times of J.R.R. Tolkien, chronicling his childhood, his relationships, and his wartime experiences -- basically, everything that informed his Lord of the Rings tales before his Lord of the Rings tales even existed.
Nicholas Hoult plays the author and Lily Collins his eventual wife, Edith. "It brought it back to a very modern place," says the actress. "Audiences may just assume that it's a period piece, where in fact, these experiences are timeless."
Tolkien is in theaters May 10.
