On Wednesday's episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, friendly neighbourhood Tom Holland spoke about how he helped keep Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a drunken phone call.
Believing Spider-Man was being removed from the MCU, Holland had initially only asked for Disney CEO Bob Iger contact details so he could thank him for the experience. "I got his email, I sent him the email, and he responded very quickly saying, 'I'd love to jump on the phone with you at some point — when are you free?'" recalled Holland. "And you don't give Bob Iger a schedule. You're like, 'whenever, Bob!'"
Unfortunately for Holland, "whenever" turned out to be when the actor was three pints in at his local pub trivia. "I get a phone call from an unknown number, and I have a feeling like, I think this is Bob Iger... but I'm drunk."
Holland confessed to getting a bit weepy and emotional during the call because he "felt like it was all coming to an end." The alcohol likely had something to do with it as well.
Fortunately the crisis was averted and Holland's webslinger remains in the MCU. We can't say for sure that the agreement between Disney and Sony was influenced by their executives not wanting to make Spider-Man cry, but it couldn't have hurt.
Holland also spoke about his surprising carpentry skills, his attempts at scriptwriting, and filming crime drama Cherry with the Russo brothers in Cleveland. "It's been a really strange experience for me because I've been doing this superhero thing for a while now, and now I'm doing heroin."
