You might think the winding stretch of water in the video above looks gentle enough, but you'd be wrong.

As YouTuber Tom Scott explains in his latest video, "The Strid" in Yorkshire is exceptionally dangerous and lives have been lost at the beauty spot. The geography of the area means the river goes from being wide and flat upstream to carving narrow passages through the rock further down; it's easy for anyone who happens to fall in to get caught in the swirling currents and drown. 

"There are certainly rivers that have taken more lives and there are rapids and waterfalls that no boats could ever sail, but generally, you can see them coming," says Scott.

"This is just an innocent-looking stream in the middle of some woods. You could jump over it -- people occasionally do -- but if you miss that jump, it'll kill you."
