The trailer for psychological thriller Trap has arrived, and in classic M. Night Shyamalan fashion, it comes with a twist.

Trap follows a father (Josh Hartnett) who accompanies his teen daughter (Ariel Donoghue) to a concert by pop singer Lady Raven (Shyamalan's own daughter Saleka). Noticing an outsized police presence at the venue, he soon finds out that the performance is actually a trap to catch a notorious serial killer who the authorities believe will be in attendance.

Learning that your child is in the same location as a brutal murderer would be a nightmare for the most parents. However, this particular dad is not most parents. In fact — spoiler alert — he may be the killer they're looking for.

Trap arrives in theatres Aug. 9.
