Trevor Noah discusses Britney Spears' conservatorship in relation to Jeff Bezos

It's been a good week for pop star Britney Spears, with a judge ruling on Wednesday to remove her father from her conservatorship. While someone else will temporarily take up the role, it's still a massive step forward in the pop star's 13-year battle to regain control of her own finances and career. However, as The Daily Show host Trevor Noah pointed out, Spears' situation indicates a need for greater scrutiny of conservatorships in general.

"Any of us could be thrown into a conservatorship at any point," said Noah. "Someone just has to go to prove to a judge that you can't handle your own life. And I mean, who is handling their own life well?"

Which is a fair point, especially considering pandemic anxiety has done a number on all of our brains.

"But if we're not going to end conservatorships, we could at least apply them more selectively," Noah continued. "I mean, Britney Spears is worth $60 million, yes, but she doesn't need a conservator. You know who does? People with $60 billion. Those people are out of control. I mean, name one thing Britney has done that's as wasteful and just like, mindless, as going to space in a giant penis."
