You know the viral tweet where someone yells at a clip from The Big Bang Theory because the show's idea of jokes appears to be a mindless stream of pop culture references? It's right here. Someone ought to pass that tweet along to Saturday Night Live after this toothless cold open.

The sketch finds Mike Pence (Beck Bennett) huddling in an office with Rudy Giuliani (Kate McKinnon) and attorney general Bill Barr (Aidy Bryant) to talk about the Donald Trump impeachment inquiry. But it's really just a jumbled mish-mash of "we did the crimes and admitted it" one-liners, pop culture references, and visitors impersonating other members of Trumpworld.

The highlight is Matthew Broderick's unexpected appearance as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. It's an absolute joy to see Ferris Bueller himself deliver a "life moves pretty fast" joke. Otherwise, this cold open is a dud.
