What do you get if you combine Mad Max, Star Trek and some good old-fashioned espionage? Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets. From The Fifth Element director Luc Besson comes a new space adventure full of dazzling visuals (including Rihanna).

A new trailer acquaints us better with Valerian (Dane DeHaan) and Laureline (Cara Delevingne) as they are sent to Alpha, the City of a Thousand Planets, where every species shares its knowledge freely. Their task: To protect the city from an imminent threat -- and save whole universe by extension.

Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets is based on the comic book series Valerian and Laureline by Pierre Christin and Jean-Claude Mézières. The film hits theaters July 21.
