YouTube's Rewind 2019 tries to bounce back with a safe and boring countdown

After 2018's YouTube Rewind became the most dislikes in YouTube history, YouTube Rewind 2019 decided to tone things down a little.

Gone is the sketch format, the eight-minute run time, and Will Smith saying "Aaaahhhh ... that's hot." This year, YouTube kept it to a simple with five-minute montage of the most liked and most viewed videos of the year sorted by genre. It's boring, but hey, maybe that's what you get when you complain.

Among them, you'll find the likes of Ariana Grande and Billie Eilish in music, James Charles and Jeffree Star in beauty, First We Feast and Shane Dawson in "top trending," and David Dobrik and PewDiePie in "most viewed creators" with PewDiePie leading all with around 4 billion views.

Video games were a hot topic, too, with Minecraft, Fortnite, and Grand Theft Auto garnering the most, second-most, and third-most views, respectively.

Do you think YouTube Rewind redeemed itself this year?
