If you thought you knew the story of how the Fresh Prince of Bel Air really came to be, forget that tale immediately. Will Smith has just given us all the real scoop of exactly what went down before he landed the iconic role that changed his life.

In his latest vlog, the legendary actor opens up about how, thanks to encouragement from his girlfriend, he was able to be at the right place at the right time. Ultimately it landed him in the home of Quincy Jones, who forced Smith to audition in front of a crowd of entertainment executives with only 10 minutes of preparation.

Thankfully, it turned out just fine. And I suppose we have a drunk Quincy Jones (and Smith's ex-girlfriend) to thank for one of the best TV shows of the '90s.
